Sorting Hat Scene

Setting
The Setting of this scene is in the Grand hall/ Dining hall, we are shown this by all the students eating and drinking the atmosphere is warm and welcoming with the torches and candles which help liven up the scene the scene is light and friendly.
The Floating candles show us that the castle is magical and the costume that the actors wear e.g Robes and wizard hats tell us that it is a film about magic. The big chair in the middle that Dumbledore sits at suggests he is in charge and powerful this is also shown through.The Props used look old and mystic to create interest in the surroundings also the sorting hat is obviously magical. In this Scene you can get only vague Idea of to what genre the Film is.

Costume
The Costumes are consist of Robes and funny hats characters also have long beards and funny hair styles.Students costumes are like ordinary uniforms but with wizard robes as well this tells us that this is no ordinary school it's a wizard school. The Genre is indicated by the characters clothing ( Wizards and Magic). When we first see Draco his hair is smartly combed back and looks shiny by doing this he looks very slick and evil so the audience can guess he's in slytherin because he looks like a snake his expression is also slightly evil. Snape is also looking evil, this is shown by his hair and black robes and expression.

Lighting
The Lighting in this scene is warm and bright with and the fire this gives a feeling of an excitement and a welcoming atmosphere. The way the lighting is used is really effective in this scene we are in a nice warm and friendly atmosphere by giving it a orange glow/tint however in other scenes it can seem cold, dark and creepy to get the audience involved this would usually have a slight green or blue look.

Characters
The new arrivals are clearly scared, they are in the center of attention and in the middle of the room while all the other students surround them this makes them look small. The Headmaster is placed in the Center of the staff table in a huge chair to show his power. You learn that the characters each want to be put in certain houses you can this from their expressions and actions.
